Industry Dinner Reception at AIFE

23-Apr-2009
AIFE held its first industry dinner where guests from a range of organisations including; Tourism Training Australia; the NSW Chamber of Commerce; The Australian Hotels Association; and Service Skills Australia, as well as hospitality industry representatives from the Bavarian Hospitality Group; The Grace Hotel; Swissotel and Kobe Jones. Those in attendance had the pleasure of enjoying both the excellent food and service provided by AIFE’s students. It was certainly a memorable day for the AIFE students involved in the preparation and hosting of the event and we’d like to congratulate them on its resounding success.

On arrival, guests were served drinks and appetizers which were both prepared and served by the students. This was followed by a delicious three course meal. As AIFE students are undertaking the Certificate III in Asian Cookery, the aim of the evening was to showcase their knowledge and skills with regards to Asian cuisines. This was reflected in the menu, which included chicken teriyaki and stir-fried baby bok choy with oyster mushrooms.
Throughout the evening, participants commented on the importance of such events in promoting training organisations which play an active role in shaping the future of the hospitality and tourism industry. Guests were noticeably impressed with the enthusiasm and pride displayed by the students taking part.

After the dinner, guests were requested to complete comment cards so that students could receive comprehensive feedback on the service and quality of food provided. This feedback will also be invaluable in planning for future events. In appreciation of AIFE students’ efforts, Tourism Training Australia has been generous enough to provide a return airfare to Singapore for one lucky participant in the evening. On departure, as a token of gratitude, students handed out gift boxes to the guests.

One of the aims of AIFE is to ensure that, in addition to the theoretical and practical aspects of their course, students are also given the opportunity to participate in events such as this, so as broaden their knowledge and skills in a supportive environment. We believe that this, in conjunction with structured work placement, will ensure that our students are work-ready graduates. We also hope that this type of initiative will strengthen our links within the industry, and will heighten students’ interest, commitment, and passion for hospitality.
